What a ceremony script is (and why yours should be bespoke)
A wedding ceremony script is the written text the celebrant leads the day from — the welcome, your story, the readings, the vows, the ring exchange, any ritual, the closing — in the order it will happen. A good script isn't a document I read aloud; it's a structured conversation between you, your guests, and the day, with you at its centre. The version below is a sample only; every script I write is bespoke.
A sample symbolic ceremony script, section by section
Welcome. "Friends, family — thank you for travelling here. We're gathered at [location], which already feels right for [names], because…" Story. A short telling of how you met, who you are together, and what brought you to this terrace, garden, or piazza. Two or three paragraphs. Reading. A friend or family member reads a chosen passage; I cue them. Vows. The two of you make your promises — I lead, you speak, never alone. Ring exchange. "These rings are a promise you carry with you. With this ring I…" Ritual. Optional: a handfasting, a wine box, a unity candle, or something invented for you. Pronouncement. "And so, with the promises you've made to each other, and the people who witnessed them, I name you married in your hearts, your families, and your home." Blessing / close. A short, warm final line that ends the ceremony and lets you breathe.
Can you write your own script?
Yes, partly or wholly. Some couples hand me their vows and trust every other line to me; others want a hand in shaping each section. The script is ours together: I write the first full draft, you mark anything that doesn't feel like you, we refine. The writing your vows guide carries its own guidance if vows are where you want to start.
How I write a script with you
The first draft comes after our conversations about you — your story, who's coming, what you want the room to feel like. I write it specifically for the day, the place, and the people who'll be there, never from a master template. The running order is its own study; you don't need to design it from scratch.
Let's write yours
A script you'd happily read again in five years is the goal — words that sound like you, on the day, in Italy, in front of the people who came. Tell me when your wedding is and we'll start writing from your story.
